LED street lights are designed to offer a bright view of the cars on the road and to assist the driver in driving safely. I'm not sure whether you've noticed, but the highway has no LED street lights. "Do you know there are no LED street lights on the highway?" I once asked a group of friends. "Oh, honestly, I didn't notice," most of them responded. In fact, save for significant bridges and tunnels, roads seldom install LED street lights. On conventional metropolitan roads, however, LED street lights are present; nonetheless, there are no street lights on high-speed motorways. Why?
In the main stretch of China's expressway, there are currently no street lamps placed. Only LED high mast lights, street lights at the tunnel entrance, and tunnel lights are placed in the intercommunication zone. This is due to issues with safety, cost, and upkeep.
In terms of driving safety, street light illumination is not continuous, and exposure distance is restricted.
The brightest position beneath the pole is the brightest point, and the darkest point is the middle point between the two poles in most metropolitan trunk road lights.
When a car goes at 120 km/h on the highway, the trip per second is 33.3 meters, and every second is cycled from the brightest point to the darkest point. The 1Hz strobe line continues to penetrate the eye, causing visual tiredness and compromising the driver's safe driving.
Furthermore, installing LED street lights on the roadway costs a lot of money and time. At the same time, long-term investments in electrical supply and maintenance are required. If no vehicle is present during the lighting of the streetlight, the electricity will be wasted.
As a result, installing the lights on a high-speed roadway is neither energy-efficient nor scientific.
Some motorways, however, may add high mast lights for supplementary illumination at key crossings (cross-sea bridges), interchanges, or ramps. Tunnel developments will also include street lighting and tunnel lighting.
The primary goal of proper roadway illumination is to eliminate information ambiguity. The conceivable alternative options cannot be thoroughly considered as long as there is ambiguity. The driver's visual information needs are a direct result of what the driver accomplishes while performing the driving activity.
