The quality or efficacy of the heat sinking, the driver, and the temperature in the area where the LED high bay light will be installed are the three main elements that affect an LED high bay light's lifespan.
Lumen depreciation occurs rather fast with outdated lighting technology. For instance, at 40% of the typical bulb life, or around 8,000 hours of operation, a metal halide lamp may have a lumen depreciation of 35%. In other words, you only get 65% of the light while the fixture continues to consume a lot of power.
The LEDs in an LED high bay light progressively output less light as the light source ages. L70 is a rating for LED high bay lights. When the light source produces 30% less light than when it was brand-new, the fixture is said to have achieved its rated life. How do the three main variables impact life? Take a peek.
How many hours does an L70 LED high bay light last?
The minimum rating for LED high bay lights is L70 @ 50,000 hours. That indicates that the LEDs will continue to generate 70% of the initial brightness after 50,000 hours. The rated life is more than 15 years if 12 hours per day, five days per week, are assumed. Some of the LED high bay lights from MKLIGHTS Fixtures are TM-21 certified. This indicates that the fixture has an L70 rating of 100,000 hours or greater. A lot of the LED high bay lights made by MKLIGHTS Fixtures are certified L70 @ 200,000 hours, and some even L70 @ 300,000 hours. L 70 # 300,000 hours may bring a lot of value in situations where getting to the fixtures is difficult or prohibitively costly.
Life of LED High Bay Lights: The Driver Is Important
Although the LEDs may endure L70 @ 50,000 hours, the driver may not. It is difficult to say whether one driver is of higher quality than another. What is discernible is the driver's placement inside the fixture. Drivers die from the heat. The drivers for the majority of UFO-style L70 @ 50,000-hour high bay lights are located right above the LED fixture and heat sink. By placing the driver in a distinct area of the high bay light, the life of the driver may be increased and safeguarded.
High heat environments kill LEDs and drivers, reducing the lifespan of LED high bay lights
The area near the ceiling is where the LED high bay lights are positioned, and there is no way to mitigate the heat produced by processes like producing steel or heat processing. LED high bays may be specifically designed to endure extreme heat. The LEDs must first have exceptional heat dissipation. Additionally, operating the LEDs at very low miiliamps may increase their lifespan (mA). The life of the LEDs is increased by this under-driving. The driver must be covered as well in order to handle intense heat. The driver is either put in a remote-access separate compartment or a separate compartment that is kept separate. In other words, the driver has situated some distance from the light-emitting portion of the fixture.
In most cases, metal halide (MH) lamps can be replaced on a one-to-one basis with LED I&M lamps. Using a one-to-one basis reduces labor costs and maintains an even light distribution, assuming that the light will do so even if the old fixture still works. A one-to-one swap should consider all the factors that should be considered when purchasing lighting, such as lumens emitted, time of use, heat in the location, mounting height, optics, etc., but let's keep it simple here.
The most common traditional (MH) luminaire is the (MH) luminaire with a 400-watt metal halide (MH) lamp. This fixture uses approximately 460 system watts of power, including the lamp and ballast. Since traditional lighting is expensive and many facilities were previously under-lit, it was a good decision to go with something with more light and still save a lot of energy.
A 400w MH lamp emits an average of 24,000 lumens from the luminaire. This means that the luminaire emits an average of 24,000 lumens of light between the time the MH bulb is new and the time it burns out. To replace it on a one-to-one basis, you would look for LED high bay lamps that emit more than 24,000 lumens, as an LED luminaire that assumes L70 @ 50,000 hours will depreciate in lumens by 30% over 50,000 hours. The BD 200 and BA 240 are both examples of one-to-one replacement LED high bay lights.
